The Christmas Club

The Fine Arts Department wowed audiences as they kicked off the Christmas season with their annual performance. It became the most attended production in Fine Arts history, with both performances playing to a full house. The gymnasium was completely transformed with a stage, lighting, and sound, and many attendees commented that it was barely recognizable once the lights went down and the show began.

Audiences were taken on a journey through the decades during a recent production that celebrated the enduring legacy of The Christmas Club, a once-thriving Christmas Club that had slowly faded over the years and now faced the possibility of being sold and replaced by a modern shopping mall. The production skillfully wove together history, music, and faith. As the story unfolded, it became clear that while musical styles and fashions changed across the decades, one message remained constant. The audience was reminded that every era of the Christmas Club celebrated the true meaning of Christmas—the birth of Jesus Christ.

One of the most impressive takeaways from the production was the wide range of student talent and involvement. The cast featured high school theater students spanning all experience levels, from first-year performers to seasoned veterans. Veteran cast members played key roles in developing the production by contributing their choreography and theatrical experience. Senior Perry Milom choreographed several scenes, while sophomore Will Nelms coached several of the actors. Alumni also joined in the success—alumna Chloe Steavanus returned to assist with character coaching, and Avery Raper contributed choreography as well.

Students from Unspeakable Joy, the PVCS Show Choir, made special appearances, wowing the audience with their harmony and talent. Other talented musicians added energy and variety through live performance, including electric guitars and bucket drumming, creating a dynamic blend of traditional and modern sounds. The combined talent—from rising performers to seasoned alumni now using their gifts to give back—truly shone through in the show’s success.

“Kelly and I are continually impressed by the talent and work ethic of our students. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with them in creating quality entertainment for our school and community,” said Gary Voorhies, Fine Arts Director. “We extend our sincere thanks to the parents and administration whose support makes these productions possible, and we give thanks to God for His provision. The Fine Arts program continues to grow, and we are proud to be part of that journey.”

Be sure to mark your calendars for the spring production scheduled for April 18th! The cast is eagerly awaiting the announcement of the show, which will be revealed on New Year’s Eve. Both the cast and the Fine Arts Booster Club are excited to kick off the new year with auditions and behind-the-scenes work as they prepare to deliver an even more impressive production this spring!
