Student Leaders Organize Event for National Prayer Gathering
As a part of our core value to Serve Like Jesus, PVCS staff and administrators often look for opportunities to empower students to find ways to lead and serve during the course of the school year. One of these opportunities is the annual See You at the Pole event. Each year, our high school student council members coordinate and lead this gathering of PVCS students, teachers, and staff to pray over one another, our school, our community, and our nation.
See You at the Pole is a globally recognized event that originated in Texas in 1990 when a group of teenagers felt led to organize a prayer around their flag pole at school. The movement was contagious and grew from there; eventually, schools around the country were planning the event.
The PVCS High School Student Council once again organized the schoolwide gathering, welcoming students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The opportunity to include our entire student body (from the youngest kindergartner to the oldest senior) is one of the things that makes PVCS so special.
At this year’s event, our Student Council Vice President, Gwen Carr, opened with a devotion on the different types of prayer, encouraging students to reflect on the importance of praying with intention. Following the devotion, students participated in a whole-group prayer focused on the community and PVCS. They were then invited to break into smaller groups, each led by a Student Council member, where prayer requests were shared and lifted up together.
See You at the Pole provided a meaningful opportunity for students of all ages to come together in faith and unity at the start of the school day. We are proud of those students who made the extra effort to arrive early for this time of spiritual reflection and prayer and of those student leaders who gave of themselves in order to lead others well.
We hope you will join with us to pray that our students will continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus as we endeavor to point them to Him in areas of their lives.
